It is an intriguing quirk of law that someone caught texting on their phone whilst driving can incur a fine of up to $500, yet someone writing on a notepad can not.

It’s one that Tony Trudgett, 56, has exploited to the full.

Mr Trudgett has taken this loophole to the extreme and has penned a 700+ page autobiography whilst driving. What’s more, it’s whilst he was driving and Uber.

Even more interesting is that he has penned the entire memoir in calligraphy with a nib and ink, all whilst driving a manual car. In some instances his passengers needed to change gears or hold the jar of ink.

Constable Uzcilas said “We pulled the man over in Crown Street but after investigating the incident the man was released without charge, as he was not, under the letter of the law, it is not currently an offence to write behind the wheel… but touching a mobile phone is.”

What’s even more incredible is that Mr Trudgett currently boasts a 5-Star rating on Uber.
