Local residents are perplexed as to why the council would install a bin that clearly does not work. 

“Yeah there’s, like, no opening,” said Sarah 26 designer. “How are we meant to put our organic rubbish in it?”

Council have been asked for comment and have confirmed they have commissioned a full investigation, outsourcing the task to a research consultancy firm at a cost of $15,000 a day.

“We’re confident we’ll get to the bottom of this in the next few months,” said Brianne Jessop, of Sydney City Council.
