They say women love dating Tradies. Well right now it’s a boon for one type of tradie: the electrician. Throngs of Sydney women desperate for a man are in the midst of an unprecedented Man Drought now in it’s 11th year. It’s clear What Women Want: ‘The Spark’.
They’re out there in force every night looking for it high and low. Only to, inevitably, end the evening with the infamous ‘Take Care’.
Now, in desperation, women have taken ‘The Spark’ literally, and they’re dating electricians in droves.
“Not only is he a tradie, but he’s an electrician, so he’s GOT to know about ‘The Spark’, and how to create it,” says Shelly, 35.
“I have absolutely no idea what’s going on,” says Gareth, 25. He contracts for a Surry Hills based electrical company. And currently his Tinder feed is blowing up.
We chat to a soundtrack of chimes from his pocket.
“All I can say is that I’m chockers ’til Christmas. A date every night. It’s mental.”
As we talk two girls approach. “I’m sorry are you an electrician?” one asks.
Seconds later numbers are exchanged.
“See!” says an incredulous Gareth.
I ask if there’s any actual sexual chemistry on any of these dates. He replies a flat no. But as Gareth’s actually been trained in dealing with electronics they feel certain he’s capable of creating a spark.
“One chick asked me to change a lightglobe. I said ‘how many electricians does it take to change a lightglobe’ which is kind of funny because I’m an electrician. I said ‘One. But there’s a 17 week wait because they’re all on dates’. But she wasn’t listening. She was already undoing my work-belt. Wow. Women are really desperate for ‘The Spark’ aren’t they? Poor things.”
Alarmingly, standards of electrical work in Sydney has dropped dramatically as electricians are busy creating ‘The Spark’ with single Sydney women.
