A Surry Hills woman has been arrested after allegedly knifing her partner, Steven Morris who repeatedly referred to her as “OfSteve”, a reference to characters on the ‘Handmaid’s Tale’.
The two had finished watching the Season 2 finale of the Handmaid’s Tale when Steven insisted on referring to his partner, Jackie Gibson as “OfSteve”.
Ms Gibson reacted strongly to the term and insisted he stop, but Mr Morris continued.
Things got worse as Mr Morris would only speak in the language of male characters on the show, beginning each day with statements like “Blessed day”, “Under his eye” and “May the Lord open”.
Finally the woman snapped.
After wading through 13 episodes of the most depressing show on television, Ms Gibson finally discovered June’s fate in The Handmaid’s Tale — and she wasn’t happy.
As soon as the Season 2 finale hit her screen she took to Twitter to debrief, and her overall sentiment was decidedly negative.
The Handmaid’s Tale isn’t the world’s most uplifting show, so it’s not as if Ms Gibson was expecting a happy ending.
But it was her partner’s constant reference to her as “OfSteve” that tipped her over the edge.
The Surry Hills Times understands the woman will be pleading manslaughter.
Understandably.
