PICNIC Surry Hills is on Today in Ward Park on Devonshire St, from 12 – 5! This new event, from the Surry Hills Creative Precinct celebrates Surry Hills’ fresh new look now that construction along Devonshire Street has ended, finally!

The community picnic is free to attend. As an official festival event of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, Picnic Surry Hills promises to be a colourful affair with an array of extraordinary entertainment.  Meet the fabulous and glamorous Devonshire Divas and Axl Rod, the local Merman, along with an entourage of local characters, personalities and a few surprises. And for the kids, magical unicorn rides await.

On the music front, stepping up to the decks to provide the ultimate lazy Sunday afternoon soundtrack is Arq resident, DJ Adam Love, and Groovescooter’s DJ’s Paris Pomper and Georgie.

As part of the Daisy Chain Public Art Project, everyone is invited to create an enormous installation of blooming flowers. The Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre will be encouraging locals to meet the neighbours and make new friends with a series of free flower workshops.

Guests will be able to enjoy food freshly prepared by the array of local cafes, pubs and gourmet eateries offering special Picnic delights with official food partners: Pizza Autentico, Simply Hummus and Yulli’s. PICNIC partners will be providing everything from fresh summer snacks to delicious desserts and hearty lunches, with a selection of handpicked food stalls offering delicious morsels on the green.

AND GUESS WHAT?! A limited-edition picnic blanket will be available for purchase from selected picnic partners and in Ward Park on the day to support charity partner ACON, with $5 of every Picnic blanket sale going to their community health programs.

By night, PICNIC in the pub will offer more live music and entertainment, drink specials and relaxed vibes at some of Surry Hills favourite haunts including Tilly May’s upstairs at the Trinity Hotel, the Shakespeare Hotel, the Dove & Olive and many others.
