In a world first a young Surry Hills couple was wed by a drone last weekend and the bride was beaming, “The wedding went off without a hitch” said Melissa Meredith with a straight face.

The development coincides with the government’s $1.2 billion investment on drones. The casual observer did not expect marriage celebrant duties to encompass the job description of said drones. We live and learn.

In a stroke of genius the money the couple saved on the cost of hiring a Marriage Celebrant was spent on a helicopter and camera crew to film the wedding ceremony.

The drone operator, based in the Ukraine completed an online certificate as a Marriage Celebrant.

“It’s what I’ve always wanted”, said Sergey. “This is dream of lifetime.”

Unfortunately Sergey celebrated a little to heavily.

“The blades from the helicopter made it hard to hear Sergey’s voice over the drone’s speakers but it was worth it,” said Melissa.

In a related incident there was a helicopter crash nearby. There were no survivors.
