Peter Beattie, who has bumbled his way through a ludicrous appointment as the Australian Rugby League Commission chairman, has announced he will finally stand himself down under a new “At Fault” Stand Down policy, he introduced for his own tenure.

“Let’s be honest, I’ve done nothing right. I don’t even know the names of the teams! I’m at fault here. I desperately need to stand down,” said Beattie in a rare display of wisdom.

Beattie told the ARL Commission on Wednesday that he would not seek reappointment when his term expires early next year, the SHT understands.

Rugby League fans have taken to the streets to voice their approval.
