A Surry Hills resident who took the extraordinary step of travelling to Newtown for yesterday’s festival has not managed to find his way home and fears are deepening for his survival.

Family members of John Jansen, 27, said it was highly unlike Mr Jansen to travel outside of Surry Hills.

Surry Hills police were notified of the man’s missing status at 11pm last night.

Constable Constance said, “It’s not clear why the gentleman travelled to Newtown, perhaps he was kidnapped or taken against his will possibly even drugged we don’t know at this stage.”

Police ask the public to keep an eye out for anyone resembling Mr Jansen who is 180cm tall weighing 85kgs with brown hair and brown eyes sporting a light hipster beard.

Constable Constance went on to say, “Obviously he was in unfamiliar territory. We’d like to be like to hope at this stage that Mr Jansen simply became disoriented and confused and is still out there unharmed.”

The Newtown Festival may have claimed a life.
