Irate Dragons fans were out in force yesterday at Jubilee.
They took out their team’s poor performance on anyone, including recently appointed CEO and club legend Brian Johnston.
Much to the dismay of Club supremo Danny Robinson who joked that the core reason the CEO was appointed was because “nothing rhymes with Johnston” – a reference to the perennial “Oust Doust” sign that accompanied Peter Doust’s long tenure as CEO.
“I haven’t missed a tackle in years,” said Brian Johnston, who will replace Doust in November. “But no doubt I’ll get blamed for a few next season.”
Savvy and perpetually irate Dragons fans were however one step ahead.
Fans were asked what CEO Brian Johnston was “lying” about.
“Nothing. Yet. But it doesn’t matter bro. What’s important is that the Club knows we’re on their case.”
“He’ll probably lie about something. If he does ‘Boom’! We’re there”.
This comes on the back of notoriously emotional St George fans hostile reaction after their 38-0 loss.
Star halfback Ben Hunt was a particular target after another below-par performance by the Queensland Origin playmaker, while another player had a Dragons scarf throw at him.
McGregor said he had experienced it during his playing days with the club and said the fans felt entitled to vent their feelings after such a disappointing performance.
Former signs included “Down with Brown”, “Sack Farrar”, The Price Is Not Right”.
We await to see whether “Lyin’ Brian” becomes a fixture, and what, if anything Brian has lied about.
Until then, we can count on the ferocity of Dragons’ fans.
