When the game show ‘Pointless’ first aired we were told by the medical wing of the Channel 10 promotions department that it was ‘crazily addictive’.
In fact an endless barrage of promotions declared the shows’ addictive qualities.
Now less than a year, ‘Pointless’ has been reclassified and downgraded to ‘Not at All Addictive’, and now, non-existent.
Network Ten plans to “chop” Pointless less than a year after it replaced Family Feud on air.
The game show, which is hosted by Mark Humphries and Dr Andrew Rochford, has consistently struggled to rate well in its 6pm timeslot.
“It’s up there with the most non-addictive substances on the planet, including thong rubber and regret,” said chief scientist at the CSIRO, Professor John Donnelly.
“I’m not sure how Channel 10’s promotion department came up with the classification ‘crazily addictive’ but we will be investigating”.
Channel Ten’s promotion department did not respond to our calls.
Insiders feel co-host Dr Andrew Rochford, a medically trained doctor, should have known better.
Others feel the ‘crazily addictive’ descriptor should only be applied to substances that deserve it. Like ice.
