Cameron Smith has spent the weekend honing his skills as an NRL referee as a precursor to a career after playing the game at the highest level.
Smith’s ability as an NRL referee is without question. His game management skills are second to none including the man with the whistle. This weekend he finally was.
Smith utilised his week off with suspension in the best way possible by refereeing an Intrust Cup match between the Newtown Jets and the Wyong Roos.
Throughout the match both captains took issue with Smith’s calls. As soon as they approached Smith he sent both captains off.
“I’m not gonna cop that,” said Smith after the game. “I’m the man with the whistle it’s a simple as that. There’s no place for backchat in the game.”
Well played Cameron.
