A group of single fathers desperate for a punt on the weekend have cajoled their 2-year-olds into a race meet the second Saturday of every month with the event gaining rapid popularity.
The events consist of a 10, 20 and 50 metre race with bookies now part of the fixture.
The rise in popularity is attracting the likes of Sportsbet and TAB.
The enterprising fathers have been publicly shamed and copped merciless abuse from their ex-wives but the men are unrepentant.
One of the fathers, Justin Tedco, spoke to the Surry Hills Times: “We are attracting significant sponsorship dollars already, Mercedes and Etihad are sniffing around.”
“I don’t see the problem, it’s fresh air and exercise and healthy competition for the kids” said Tedco.
Children’s advocacy groups are outraged. They see this as bold exploitation.
“Well I guess that’s what happens when you get a bunch of blokes together. We love a punt we love a beer.”
What seems more alarming is that some women are now getting involved. The men’s new girlfriends are turning up en-mass in designer frocks and high heels enjoying champagne and canapes throughout the day. There have been multiple instances of extreme intoxication and broken heels.
